1. Dual core atom 1.6Ghz motherboard
2. 2G RAM (1G is ok too)
3. 2G SSD (512MB / 1G is enough)
4. Aluminum Chassis
5. Power Supply (400W, actually 200W is enough)
6. Tried FreeNAS but not good with MacOSX transfer and moved to Ubuntu
7. HD (Hitachi 2T*4 with software RAID 5)
1. How much of the 2GB SSD ? SLC or MLC ? I think should be SLC.
2. The FreeNAS can support RAID 0+1 for ATOM chipset or not ?
3. How much of the total cost?
Mainboard + 4 x 2T + Case + SSD + RAM + PSU = XX,XXX
Try Unbuntu, it is good OS.
I use QNAP TS-119 turbo NAS, with max power < 20W.
NAS $ 15XX + 1T HDD $620 = $21XX.
For storing all hififever file, PCB layout, BT client.

1. <= 4GB is SLC, SSD cost RMB160
2. FreeNAS can support Atom and Raid 0 to Raid 5 and even hybrid (raid 10 etc)
3. Total cost is about $2400 without HD, HD $928 each
4. This NAS should only consume about 30-40W as the CPU only use 25W
Ubuntu is good, but you need to know Linux to operate.. FreeNAS (can install within 10 min) is wonderful if you don't use MAC
1. What is the min RAM need ? (1G or 2G)
2. ATOM 1.6G is enough or not?
3. Can all OS / working swap file can be in SSD or not ?
4. What is the format of the extra HDD ? Can I config as 2T x 4 = 8T with standard NTFS or FAT32 format?
5. Is it support uPNP? ITUNE server? DLNA?
6. If can support ITUNE, can it be stream AAC at "REAL TIME transcode".
