This is coldamp switching power supply! Can you comment on the sound? It would be very interesting if there is a comparision with the conventionaly linear power supply with A/B testing! Please post your report!

What is the other transformer and PCB used for?

We'll test it on Wed, will arrange a A/B test after completion of the assemble.

The additional transformer and regulator board is for the dedicated power supply to the Opamp

Hi Ray01,

You can make a 2 channel first and do the upgrade later, we can help you when you need to upgrade to multichannels

Yes, 6/7 channels is for AV systems. You can connect AV amp pre-out to the power amp with better sound quality

interested in 3 channels but how much?? and what if i also use 2 of them for music, should i put all 3 in one case of separate them?

ackcheng hing, what is a coldamp switching power supply? how is it different from the one they used in the workshop?

It is a power supply unit that can provide 800W without the need of big transformer

Ray01,

You may need to upgrade your AV amp in order to use external power amp.

Alternatively, you can modify your AV amp to get the pre-out function, but it may be better for you to sell your entry level av amp and buy a medium level with pre-out.

Very interested in a 3-channel using UcD400 ..... but can a SPS80 coldamp power supply unit provide sufficient power for 3 UcD400 modules to run at full power at the same time? Thx in advance.

There are still engouh space for 2*SPS80 so no worry even for 4*UCD400.

Also normally the front 3 channels may not use up full power at the same time, so it should be ok to drive 3 UCD400 with a single SPS80

It will be perfect if it include a 5.1 decoder. Anybody know if a 5.1 decoder can be DIY?

As AV amp's functionality / standard will be changed in every year (DTS, DTS-ES, Dobly Digital, DTS-HD, Dolby Digital HD etc...) , so we recommend to buy a entry / medium grade AV amp with pre-out function and use the UCD as power amp.

We have Yamaha DTS/DD reference design, any more people interest to DIY the DTS/DD decoder.

Before starting to do this, a good soldering technique need to consider because this is QFP 100 package.

Can it be just to use the SPS80 to supply the UCD180 without the additional regulated power supply?

Can, but need to check the Vout from the SPS80, if too much higher, you can adjust the zener diode in the primary stage.

另外, 小弟不材. 一向聽開的膽機及朋友的 MF 石機不是純 A 類就是 AB 類.....
感覺上好像也是純 A 的後級會較好聲........

以各位 DIY 了多部 UCD400 的經驗,  Class D 的後級會比 Class A 的好聲嗎 ?
還是因為 Class D 的輸出大,  溫度低..... 性價比較高而矣 ?

Don't let the word class A or class D cheat you! It is just the topology of the circuit. How the circuit is implemented makes a lot of difference too. Just listern and do a comparison yourself!
