Perhaps the weather is getting too consistently cold these days, the DiamondBack has gone into a hypenation state ... really dull sound and not lively at all.
How to wake it up? Try 72V battery pack. What is the result? After charging it for just > 10 hours, the sound is totally different. More Bass, more Details and Clarity improved as well.
Kids are reminded not to try this experiment out at home without supervision as this is hazardous to health ....
No, I made the battery pack myself. It is not available anywhere.
You go to Ap Liu Street, search the stores selling batteries. Look for a type of battery by GP known as 23AE. They sell for around $ 3 a piece and $14 for five. If you get them at Japan City or so, they sell for $ 5 a piece or more.
Connect six together to get the required 72V.
No, I did NOT connect the battery to the RCA plug. I am afraid that this may damage the equipment. There is no voltage when measured at both RCA terminals.
I will leave my contact number at your email. You can call me and let's discuss about the construction of this cable.
Did you get a new cable and try my experiment out? I consulted my colleague who is a physics expert. He said my experiment will work in practice.
The sound quality of that DiamondBack did improved over the days. More than five of my colleagues came to my home and they said the difference is very significant, even with my budget equipment.
The AudioQuest DiamondBack has 4 cables inside. Three of these cables are insulated with TELFON. One is the drainwire. You can look at it at AudioQuest website.
I just use AudioQuest's DBS logic as stated in their website. The RED wire inside the DiamondBack I use as Signal, the BLACK as Signal Ground. The Transparent one I use as +72V. The Drainwire I use as -72V.
Be aware this is NOT a complete circuit. The 72V wires only connect at the SOURCE side. For my construction, the 72V wires do NOT touch the casing of the RCA plugs. Make sure you don't detect any voltage along the cable after your construction or else you may damage your amp or CD player.
Just a bid confusing about
"The 72V wires only connect at the SOURCE side."
You mean that the source is the battery source not the source end of the input plug?
In other words, that's the "Transparent one " and the drain wire were connected to the battery + and - only and isolated from any of the conductive parts ? right ?
