If you do all Precautions ahead, need not worry.

My suggestion is, better get an isolated power supply for the clock. It is not expensive here in Hong Kong, just around $ 3x or so. If you get power from the PCB, then you have to be very careful.

I figure it is not easy to get a voltage reading from the Power Supply / Digital part PCB. And, for example, the clock I use requires 12V ... which I can't find anywhere.

You have to short the terminals right for the transformer to get the 12VAC. Plug it in to a wall socket and measure the output to make sure it is indeed 12V AC or around.

Of course, you have to assemble the Clcok and its components correctly on the PCB.

The Diodes on the LEFT (large ones) are PBYR 1060. I don't think we can find it anywhere on electronic stores. You have to ask KK sir for those. He got other even better diodes. I can't recall the price of them. Not very expensive ... but worthy of changing.

Those on the RIGHT, I think you can get them from either KK Sir or from Hi Fi Fever Admin. Should be around HK$ 10 / each.

I am not sure whether Hi Fi Fever is going to have a MHZ CD Modi class in October for all CD 33, CD 66 and CD 88 users. Maybe you drop Hi Fi Fever Admin an email to double check. In previous Instrument class and CD class, they said they WILL have a class like this in OCT.

I buy 16 pieces OSCON ecap 16v100u and the tranformer same too.
I will follow your advise to upgrade the cd-33.

you said the sound become detail when add the tranformer for power supply 12v for the clock. it is because the power supply of both 317 are more suitable, so the back ground is silent .

I have add the tranformer to cd-33 and take the reading just 6.48v for out put, (fixed same as you). did you check the voltage?
The sound is solid and detal more. good result.

I checked the voltage TWICE before I install the transformer into my CD 33. It says > 11.5x VAC. I check it once and then leave it there, reset my multimeter and then come back to measure it the second time.

Make sure you SHORT the middle two as indicated in the photo. The 220VAC in should be on the two outside lead. If not, you will get HALF the voltage.

Please double check.

The changing of the OS-CON will be much more challenging, ha..ha.. :

My way of doing it --- change those that are "isolated" (no other components around). I have a HARD time changing those as I have to make sure I got the correct "feet" for the capacitors but not de-solder another component instead. Doing the easier ones ENCOURAGES you to keep on and on. If you start off with the difficult ones (those in crowded areas), you will "lose hope" ....

It took me almost 1.5 hours to de-solder, clean and the solder the OS-CON. I took around FOUR breaks; to get some drink and ease off the tension in my eyes ... 老花, 無計 ... :?

I can see that you changed the cable at Point A in the photo. You also use a Silver Cable for you Digital Output?

KK Ho said the caps in White Circle can use a higher reading (not brand). Are you using the Elna?

I have no changed the wire of point A. it is original.

I changed the Digital Output wire (silver colour) and base (BNC type) for real 75ohm outup with my DAC. only

you point out by white area are used ELNA e-caps.

I am wait the result of the super clock.

I have no replaced the diodes because the 1060 and philip diodes is too clear sound. The original is sweet sound.

next step you can try add DAC for improve sound.

Ha..ha.. Mine is INFERIOR than yours at Point A. Looks like your cable there is much better.

It is funny, your version of the CD 33 has better Caps at certain location (e.g. Elna vs my plain Rubycon) and better cable.

Where did you get the OS-CON? I got mine from Vocative ($4 each) but the feet are very short. Did you get a better deal?

I will ask Hi Fi Fever and KK Sir how much is the Super Clock ... need to save up some money first, ha..ha..

No money for DAC right now. I will see if I can "borrow" one and see how it goes.

Then I should go and get more from SSP to do it for my brothers. Much cheaper.

I have some poor experience with 電子館. Last time I bought the clock we are using from them (pre-assembled) for my colleague. Good materials using OS-CON cap and better transistors. But when I connect it to 12VAC ... smoke and fumes came from the PCB near the 整流子. No idea why. They charged me $ 300 for that thing.

I think my next modification will be changing the wires on the Power Supply PCB to silver ones and the LEDs around the CD tray.

Hope that I can still squeeze some time during this month to do these.

I think you buy lt-1086 regulators because its power supply max to 12v only. I think is overload. so have smoke and fumes came from the PCB near the 整流子, or  整流子 fixed not a right postion.

Nice Headphone amp here; interesting package.

I have seen some N. Americans doing these Headphone amps. They use a Tin Box like that of 漁夫之寶 to store the Amp.

I think the last time I use a Headphone to listen to music was ... 1989 or so when I was using my AWIA Walkman Pro X-1?? Can't even recall the name but it was an interesting walkman with Dolby C NR and a large headphone.

Do you use a soldering station? I am thinking of getting one.

To my surprise, I use my ancient Canon D60 to take these photos (for the past week) with a cheap cheap lens. The D 60 is still giving me very acceptable photos!

I recently also try to diy the CMOY headphone amp but i did not use volume pot just use the 10k resistor, anyway i got a problem after finish build it. I hear noise (shii shii soudn at high frequency, this sound is present even when cd/ source is at pause position but this sound will not increase when volume increase)

i had try to reduce the gain to 4 & 6, when gain reduce the sound will reduce but still the vocal seems a bit vibration...

any advice on this?


i'm using only 1 pcs of 9v battery , had try using 2 pcs 9v battery still the same...

instead of 220uf, i use 470uf. the resistor i use the philips metal film 1/2w. opa2132. the cap had try from 0.1uf till0.47uf but still the noise is there...

but the input & output jack i use is the cheap 1.

so do you know which parts cause the noise?

do u think it is because i did not use volume port?

You comy problem just the working votagle, because 9v not enough for IC2132. You can try use two 9v battery in series content = 18v. this  can solve its problem.
otherwise check the solder point with grounding. and all material solder point is fixed well.
I have used IC2132 there (two 9v batterys power supply) no problem. very good sound.
try to use volume part.
your problem i have touch  before.
replaced 470uf is no problem. bass is more.
can you post for comy headphone amp front and base  for sharing???

It looks like you did some more modification after we stopped our post in the opa627 thread.

I "think" you changed the capacitors on the Clock PCB, is that right? I marked them with the Yellow arrows.

Where is the CLOCK? I can see the cable (black) but the clock is not sitting on the DIP socket. That is why I put down the ?? there.

You also changed some of the caps in the area I circled light blue. You use Elna or BlackGate for those?

those are blackgate e-caps (standard) wimma black box 0.15uf

when i take the photo, i forgot to re-install the clock and outup to the pcb.

the area circled light blue clolour are elna e-cao.
