你的8000S从以前到现在都需20秒, 还是最近需时较长?

AUDIOLAB,

my 8000A (~1990 version -issue no.4) also take ~20sec then only can start sound, whereas my friend's 8000S need ~5-10sec can start sound already. Other than that everything is normal..... unless if u found your audiolab take more & more time to start then u may suspect got some problem...

in case u found got sound/noise when turn the volume button 1 of the cause is the ecap near power supply side (100uF/35v) aging. ((last time my friend's amp got that problem after change teh cap then ok) --- unless there is sign of burn/short circuit if not most minor problem of audiolab maybe due to aging of e-cap. A life of a ecap normally <10000hr, if u listen 3hrs a day, then 10yrs -->~10000hrs.

so what's teh cdp & speaker u use to match with your 8000s now?

Audiolab,

Quad11L + audiolab, vocal should be ok, how the bass? is it sufficient especially for big drum & double bass??

yesterday i counter check my 8000A start time, it seems start faster compare last time before change cap, now is ~10sec(using watch)... lasttime i didn't use watch just estimation. (so on measure data it is just a feel, can be wrong feel)

i had change the 3pcs 100uf/35v cap near power suplly and all ecap in pre&power side.

so i'm not sure whether aging of cap will cause the delay of the muting device (slower charge up).....

anyway during CNY i will cahnge the 2 big tank(reservoir) after that i will measure to start time then let u know any changes.

Audiolab,

since 8000s don't have phono stage thus total e-cap in it is <20pcs.

So i will suggest you to use the best E-CAP --->Blackgate , use the standard type BG is enough.

If u cahnage all e-cap to BG--> definitely the resolution will increase>20%, bass depth will increase .....

you stay in HK right, then should be easy to get this cap.

The BG standard 100uF/50v is ~HK25-30/pcs.
this 3 e-cap located at teh corner near corner (near big reservoir & control button).
The problem u may face when install BG is that the BG cap is bigger, the lead pin is bigger than the hole at the board. there are several alternative:
1) make the lead at teh cap thinner using plier & so on, alos make the hole slightly bigger, the borad is single layer, so make the hole a bit bigger is ok.
2) connect the lead to a smaller lead/cable

Audiolab,

The previous 8000S in the photo is my friend's.
He use all BG N series at pream side, but for me i use only BG std. BG N series much more expensive but i actually can't hear much different between BG N & BG Std at pre amp side..... maybe  my ear not good enough... :p and BG N series larger size than BG STD.

Besides, i'm quite confirm that my 8000A now need less time to start compare previously before change cap. I guess (maybe i'm wrong) new cap will charge faster & more efficient than a old half die e-cap.

tk,
what do u kmean C/P ration? not very understand...
do u mean 8000C+8000P combination?
Generally 8000q+8000px better than8000C+8000px>8000s>8000A

no experience in NHT speaker, how's it's characteritic?

8000series is condider good resolution, neutral(slightly thin), bass tight but not that much in quantity. So it is more suit to speaker which is warm/sweet vocal..especially if u like vocal very much...

if u use 8000series on high resolution less warm speaker..u may get a bit thin, fast, bright sound where not so suit for vocal. Anyway cables/interconnect/cdp can be use to neutralize it...

So far understand that 8000series is quite nice sound (include vocal) on Quad 11L, Roger. On monitor audio also not too bad but not so suit AE aegis series (Just my own opinion).

If u like instrument then 8000series not bad....if u like sweet sweet vocal, there are other options...

If u want a good C/P ratio then 2 choice:

1) DIY the amp/ but DIY amp
2) Buy good 2nd hand amp

CDP= Shanling CD300 quite nice china made cdp (internal component also quite good quality) ~HK6000 (new)

then with hk14k, instead of intergrated, u can get pre 7 power as well.

For DIY amp, u can always contact modi sir/william to visit hififever show room (bring your speaker to see whther it match or not?) there have several choices and can give u better advice.

Best vocal normally is using tube amp but it may not suit your NHT speaker.

For intergarated semi-conductor amp, there are several old amp is better vocal than audiolab 8000S. E.g RESTEK challenger (not easy to see in 2nd hand market), DENSEN.
