My shanling T100se player sounded like a normal hifi cd player. Not like a tube player. I modified the tube output stage and removed all the opamps in the tube path. I used a JJ ECC99 tube with sounds very open with deep bass and silky hightones. after the mod you do not reconnice your shanling player. The direkt output is still working. So i can compare it with the tube output.

I removed the headphone tube board. In its place a mounted two tubesockets for the ECC99. Wired it point to point.

Disconnect all power wires to the tube output board. Because you need all the current you can get for the ECC99 tubes.

Removed opamp 5,6,7,8 on the picture below. And connected the new tube inputs to pin 2 and 3 from opamp 5 and 7. See pictures below.

Here the schematic diagram if you like to use 6N3, 2c51, we396a,6922 or 5670 tubes.

I am now trying the 6N6P tubes. If i like them i will make a symmetrical output only with tubes. This will look also nice because i will need to use 4 tubes.

Already the shanling CD T100se is the best sounding CD player i ever have modded.

Dear Koifarm,

Your photos are nice. But it would be much better if you can make them bigger .... ha..ha..

For people like me who are not too familiar with schematics, a larger photo helps us to solve a LOT of problems.

I have experiment with Hi Fi Fever photo posting. You can upload photos of 13xx times 10xx without trouble. Then, other users will be able to see clearly which point you are referring to.

Happy DIYing and thanks for your sharing. BTW, Merry Christmas and enjoy your holidays.

Dear Koifarm,

There is one question about by-passing the OPAMPS. Is it because they amplified the NOISE in these CD players therefore we by-pass these opamps?

I don't really understand why we need to bypass them. Can you explain it a bit? Many thanks.

Alfcat, every part in the signalpath has his influence on the audiosignal. In the shanling there are 4 opamps, 12 condensators and several resistors in the signalpath. Every part has influence on the signal like noise, distorsion, coloration, lower channelseparation and fase shifting. These parts are used because they are cheaper to use as tube parts and most people think that tubes are not from this time. So less parts is more enjoy. Most of the passive mods are sounding better but when measure the signal it is less good as before. Many manifactures like to have the best measurements because a lot of people buy they gear just reading the specifications and not by listening( about 95% of the people ).So our ear is the reference and not the measurements. Listening is everything.

It is possible to use just one part ( a resistor ) after the DAC for I/V conversion. But then the sound will be to analytic. That i do not like, i like the tubesound. And the DAC can easy got defect by a short of the output.

I like to wish you, your family and everybody else a merry christmas and a lot of modding in the new year.

Dear Koifarm,

You got yourself a lovely cat there. Looks like he / she enjoys your belly very much.

My white cat like to do the same but my black one doesn't. I should post some of my photos with my cats up here too ....

Looks like we Hi Fi guys have something in common. There are quite a number of CAT fans, Aquarium fans and Diving fans ...

Dear Koifarm,

Me and my cats. It is really hard to get the Black one on. The White one sticks around always when I lie down on the sofa.

It is like a zoo and every evening i must fight for the cauch with the dogs.

For my koi i have a webcam on this adress

Dear Koifarm,

I click on your link several times but I see something like "UFOs" ... they were giving off yellowish brown light in a dark background but nothing else.
Something wrong?

In Hong Kong, I am very lucky to have a flat of 900sq ft. For most of you living in the West, my house is even smaller than your backyard. I also have a lot of animals (from time to time). Used to have dogs, cats, chicken, ducks, birds, hamsters, rabbit, tropical fishes. I raised these creatures at different ages up to now.

Love those animals.

You saw some christmas lights. And the camera displays only a part of the pond. The carp are inactive because of the low temp ( 4 grd ). They al are in the deep part of the pond. Because of the timeshift it is also possible that you see just black and lights.

So you are a animal lover too.

Dear Koifarm,

I finally see your Koi swimming in the pond. Didn't realise that there is a clock on your webcam.

These fish have their metabolic rate set low in this type of cold weather. I have some similar fishes in the past but just kept inside an aquarium.

I like animals but I really don't know why. When I was a kid, I like animals without a reason. None of my family members kept a pet and my parents is pretty against us keeping pets as we used to live in a small home (around 550 sq ft.)
